If Linux/Unix clients are installed in a ZCM/ZAM system, inventory reports and discovered product list show manufacturers not following traditional naming rules. A few examples:
- Novell Inc
- Novell, Inc.
- Sun Microsystems, Inc.
- SUSE LINUX Products GmbH, Nuernberg
This is because ZENworks inventory takes the manufacturer from the RPM package itself in case of Linux/Unix workstations/servers.
Please fix this by applying at least one of the following:
- implement fingerprint-based software recognition for Linux/Unix clients OR
- implement a reconciliation in inventory process to unify manufacturer names during scan or in the database AND
- Fix the RPM packages (they are mostly produced by Novell in this case)
In the end, manufacturer naming for Linux products should be aligned with the one on Windows.
