It would be very helpful to be able to make a copy of an existing custom report so that a similar one can be created easily.

This is an artifact of the canned reports not being domain based. We recently released Domain based reports of the same. They are available at https://www.novell.com/communities/coolsolutions/domain-report-templates. I would expect that they will also move into the product as well.
