It should be possible to schedule "things" like system update, bundles, patches to be applied during a "maintenance" mode period.

Maintenance mode would be a configuration where any "noprmal" user login is blocked and instead of a user login prompt a maintenance mode message is shown on the login screen.

It should be possible to schedule when a device boots into maintenance mode which respective messages and postpone abilities for the user. Also it should be possible to set a flag, that Windows goes into ZCM maintenance mode in next boot without any specific schedule. Also it should be possible to enforce a restart into maintenance mode if a user manually shuts down a device. The device should keep restarting into maintenance mode until this maintenance flag is removed, e.g. if a bundle or patch deployment requires more than one reboot to complete.

It should be possible to schedule the maintenance to do a kind of AutoAdminLogon to enforce specific user credentials to be used for the maintenance mode. Nevertheless the user should only see a message that the device is in maintenance mode with some progress indication and estimation, how long the device will stay in maintenance mode.

To overcome situations where a device never comes out of maintenance mode or for troubleshooting purposes, it should be possible to unlock maintenance mode screen and do a device login with ZCM administrator level credentials having respective rights.

Last but not least for developing & troubleshooting reason if should be possible to disable this maintenance display message to see how actions are actually carried out on the device.

This would help to avoid situation where the logged-in user can be disturbed while such "things" get applied and would possibly loose work in-progress data.

This is the next best thing to applying "things" at Windows shutdown/user logout.

  • Great Idea.
I have made own bundles for AutoAdminLogon. But if zcm can handle this it would be perfect.

  • Beside the admin level unlock on the logon screen I would like to see added a 'Request unlock' so an admin could grant that from ZCC while the user is on-the-road or not near a admin level user.
