make an date option for the bundle validity.
e.g.
bundle1 - version 1 valid from 2015-01-01 until 2016-11-22
bundle1 - version 2 valid until 2016-11-23 until unlimited
then you can prepare and distribute a new bundle version smoothly.

I really like this idea but think it should be fully integrated with reporting and searching as well. Maybe add a new bundle status other than enabled and disabled like expired. Ideally having reports that show bundles expiring within the next XX days or just expired bundles would have a lot of benefit.
Taking that one step further, I think that expiration date should be able to be modified without publishing a new bundle version.
This seems much better than controlling the effective dates on the relationship side.
