Salvage is available only via NCP today. Need this for CIFS users as well.

Definitely need this for CIFS as well.
Yes. using DSfW for windows clients.. no novell clients on desktops anymore.
Miss this feature.
this sounds great. But how could it be implemented? Salvage is part of the Novell Client. Windows (and CIFS) knows nothing of salvage.
Maybe a web interface?
You can manage Salvage and Purge from NetStorage (see http://www.novell.com/documentation/oes11/stor_nss_lx/data/bqq4w30.html). The issue is more one of filesystem rights (need the create right to salvage and the delete right to purge). I'm not sure how these get mapped into CIFS. The actual Salvage and Purge functionality is in NSS itself, and not in NCP, AFAIK.
Using CIFS (against NetWare, from an OS/2 client), I can delete a file and it is in the salvage system. So, it's just a matter of how to reach it for salvage.

It could surely be easier, of course.
