Assuming that there will never be an update to a client for Linux, how about implementing a lighter weight solution that provides the few things a straight SMB/CIFS connection doesn't such as the Kanaka client for Mac OSX does?

  • Would be nice not for Linux only but for all clients using CIFS: A web server like Kanaka which parses the user's login script and a lightweight client solution that does the drive mapping based on the web server's answer.
