Novell needs to update SMS on NSS so that 3nd parties like Veeam can restore to the file level with 'rights' and directories for that matter with 'rights'. I know that Veeam can do file level restores but they have no way to restore file rights. I am sure this is a problem for other vendors as well. Everyone uses snapshot backups now in vmware and hyper-v and Novell needs to make this update to NSS/SMS.
This is one of the biggest problems that we the users face. With the wonderful power of snapshots and virtual servers and to move Novell into the future this needs to be done.
Please, Please, Please make this happen for everyone that love's Novell and want to keep using it.

SEP (sep.de) not only do snapshots but they also do "rights" as you describe them.
The problem is not so much a snapshot or the method that the snapshot is taken but the implementation of either SMS or XTTR for the restoration.
I hear your pain, but the tools exist.
