Suppose, just suppose, the Novell Client (or equivalent) had a handy option to see deleted files and bring any of them back to life, optionally with a filename change. Further suppose this would work on NetWare thought OES with no change to the file servers.
We could give the facility a name to make it easy to remember and easy to market. Let's call it a Versioning File System.
Luckily the hard work has been done already, hiding under the moniker of NSS Salvage.
What is needed is exposing that material easily in the client (note that this is already available in part through the Purge/Salvage optiion). Thus the client needs to be tweaked for usability.
While about this we consider the file server and add a TSA feature for backups, one requiring next to no code, whereby Salvage files are made available for backup and restoration. That should have been present from NW days, but nothing has been done. Now it can be accomplished very easily.
What I do not know is whether CIFS can get at this information.
So, no WebDAV, no snapshots, no wheels to be reinvented, works on NW through OES. Users get a valuable facility and the implementation cost is minimal.

Excellent idea, and we all recognize that Salvage is a killer Novell feature, available since the 1980's. Great way to leverage it. Thanks, Joe, for stating it so clearly.
