I have a valued Novell customer using GroupWise and they are very happy with this solution. BUT now they have been using LYNC for video conferencing. The Head of ITT has seen that through the outlook client you can add a meeting through lync and ghet it added to your address book and the people at the meeting just click on their address book item and they can join the LYNC meeting.

This is not available for GroupWise and not even on the road map. I believe MicroFocus use Lync so this would be the perfect opportunity to integrate these solutions. I fear if there is no promise of future integration we will lose this customer.

  • Hi Rob,

we are also looking for this integration! I also think Novell is going to miss out on a lot of customers if Skype for Business is not integrated in Groupwise. Many of our Customers are already migrating to Skype for Business.

    Regards
    Mike

  • Hi Rob

We've also got more and more requests regarding Skype fro business.
Fully agree that this is a "must have".

    regards

  • Hi Rob,

we are also very interested on GroupWise and Skype for business.
It is a must have to stay with GroupWise in the future!
    Thank you!

  • Is there no statement from Novell regarding this request?? It would be helpful to know that we can stop hoping for this integration.
To be honest, we are starting to plan a migration to Exchange, because almost all customers demand a SfB communication!

    Regards
    Mike

  • A Integration to GroupWise and of course to DSfW is very important to us. Skype for Business is now a big advantage for video-conferencing. If there is no integration, our company MUST move!

  • If you won't add native video conferencing into GW/messenger than integrate Skype.

  • The organization I work for has been with Novell and GW since NW 3.1 and WPO 3.0. Without the ability to integrate with modern business tools, I fear we are very close to a dreaded Exchange migration. The new young guns coming into our organization are demanding tools GW simply does not support.

  • I have a customer also looking for this...Has been a dedicated Groupwise user for 15+ years....Loves Groupwise...Does not want Outlook, but questions are being asked at higher levels, so unless something is done, I fear another Groupwise loss...PLEASE EXPEDITE THIS, ITS A MUST HAVE!

  • Like Mark C. said. My boss are asking question about the futur of gw. slow to include new technologie or integration like skype or SharePoint.

  • Good morning and regards from Argentina. We are receiving from all our customers this type of requests. I'll look forward to hearing good news from you. Cheers.,

  • Just found another GW customer leaving because of this...

  • Integration with Skype for Business and integration with Presence in top 5 telephony systems is a requirement for mail system here.

  • IT is a must : integration with skype and SharePoint. We too are living GW if not.

  • Please connect and integrate GW with the common usable tools like Skype, Vibe, Sharepoint, outlook client. GW is in our opinion a very good mail platform. But the business stakeholders ask and push to Microsoft as well.

  • I want to expand this conversation further. What do we want for this integration? Would a first phase where clicking on a telephone number crosses to skype for business and makes the call be "good enough" for a first phase? What would you want for a second phase? As a project I think we need to contain what we are asking for and thus improve the likelihood of something added into the project.

  • Tim, are you confusing Skype for Business with Skype for Desktops? My interpretation would be that Skype for Business be able to integrate with GroupWise to create Meeting appointments and conference calls as well as teh ability to have an open messaging system that would allow users from external organizations communicate effectively.

  • Considering that Microsoft paid $8.5B USD for Skype, does anyone really expect that they will allow a competing email product to integrate with it?

I have to believe that limiting integration with Outlook is the primary reason that Microsoft bought Skype. Believe me, I would love to see the integration with GroupWise, but consider how many people just in this thread have said they are staring down a migration to Exchange, purely because they need Skype for Business!

    MS's business strategy works...

  • I would say a appointment accept then click to open a session should be doable. As it is extreamly hard to integrate with competetive system as we’ve expirienced in the past I think our best bet is to leverage open standard/open source video conference solutions and integrate those with GW, Messenger and teaming solution.

  • Lync/Skype for Business is EOL and being phased out by mid summer 2021
