In my organization any listing of names or email addresses together with account names (eDirectory CN) raises privacy conerns. Thus the list of peoples in Filr as well as the search results when defining a share or the listing of group members within Filr are considered as problematic.
Now when configuring Filr I can choose something different than the CN als the Filr User ID when doing the LDAP import. The mail address is the obvious choice, as in general fullName will not be unique (John Smith). But then users have to remember which of their various mail alias names they have to use for a login to Filr.
My suggestion is to make the entry of the Filr User ID in search results as well as in the list of users and group members a configurable option for the Filr admin. In many organizations the name together with the mail address will be sufficient for the Filr user to identify their coworkers. So the entry for the User ID is redundant.

  • This is a huge concern in my organisation too. I would prefer to have this option before we go into production with this system. We are doing a PoC with 160 of our 6500 user and privacy conerns are taken very serious.

  • I would also appreciate hidden user ids or a better scalable configuration to decide which personal data to show and which not.

  • For reasons of data protection, it is also important for us to be able to configure the displayed data. The user ID should not be seen together with other data. It would be great to configure it.

  • Noted all.

  • Hi All,

Would you recommend hiding only User IDs only OR email IDs too?

  • I think most important is to hide the user ID. The e-mail can be found in the Exchange address book today.

  • The email address is important for sharing as well as the full name. So hiding the user ID will be sufficient for my organization.

  • Thanks both!

Thomas, Martin, Jan and other voters: views?

  • Again we really need this feature! Hiding the user id would be sufficient!

  • Yes, hiding the "user id" ist sufficient!

  • Yes, only hiding the user id is necessary!

  • Noted all - thanks!

  • We are planning to get this into Filr 3.4

  • Great news, thanks! Do you have an estimated release date für V3.4?

  • Hi Lars,

If all goes well: we plan to release Filr 3.4 (via update channel) by July.

If you are interested in beta testing this and other features we are building Filr 3.4: email me.

  • Thanks for all your idea and inputs on this!

We have got main part of this implemented and released as part of Filr 3.4 (which was released few hours back)

Feel free to put in a new idea for anything that we may have missed from this idea.

    Regards,
    Dev
