Most customers are missing file and team collaboration features in Filr which would make this product important enough to keep. Some of these bits are planned, or on the radar, like file versioning and (online) file (collaborative) editing.
This idea refers to having the ability to create workspaces in which users can store, or link to, any information they need to do their job. Of course users can add portlets to their workspace to add functionality. Users can work together in a workspace as a team. A workspace is basically a collection of files living in NetFolders. On top of this we can think of what we additionally would like to be able to in a workspace. A workspace (case like a project) should be easily archived, backed-up and restored.
Technically a lot of infrastructure is already in the Filr code, like team functionality, a wiki, workflows etc. It just needs to be exposed. Additionally there are a lot of feature request in this Idea portal that could be used in the Workspace .

File and team collaboration features is enorm useful for our Local Government Company, sharing in projects and creating workspaces is more an more a must have to support our external business partners
One of the many reasons for this idea is that customers are looking for collaboration and secure-mail solutions. These solutions do (in essence) no nore than being a (may be hosted) portal in which a message is put for a recipient. A mail is send to the recipient containing only the notification but not sending the confidential content. The message may contain attachements. So, basically this is what we with Filr (framework) already have in place.
What we would need:
-In essence the ability to create an ad-hoc workspace in which a user can compose a message
-Files living in NetFolders can be linked
-The message can be shared with an (external) user.
-Recipient recieves a message just like with a shared file, linking to the workspace containing the message
-Recipient logs into Filr and can follow up to the message from which the owner(s) of the workspace recieve a notification.
Then:
-The content of the tread should only be visible to the workspace owner(s).
-Ability to sign and encrypt the content
-Ability to archive (Retain
Plugin for mail clients: Enhance the Outlook Plugin so it can detect certain words or PII a user has used in a message and recipient domains are external, then suggest to send the mail Secure. That sets up and opens the workspace in Filr and moves directly attached files there adding links to the original message. Original recipients are added to the share with list and the original mail in Outlook is removed. The sender/composer gets a notification the Secure Message is successfully shared.
GroupWise could be enhanced in an comparable way.

The way file and collaboration within Micro Focus is organized makes it (near) impossible to achieve the goal of Filr Workspace, which I believe is essential to achieve many sidegoals possible having such in place. After again a year of talking and watching the ecosystem evolve I can only think of a single solution to solve the issue that evolved after Filr was forked off Vibe as a point solution. From a maketing perspective this back then was a good idea. Today this stand in the way to futher grow Filr so I created a new Idea for this purpose;
We want one single MicroFocus team collaboration solution which integrates well with (at least) any other MicroFocus product. This would make integration with 3th party solutions easier also, where applicable. Mentioned products originate all from the same source (Vibe) and instead of competing development-, support- and sales (MF and partners) time we better work together communicating one platform to (potential) customers. Sure any of these products have a certain fit, but at the same time a huge overlap is keeping data silo’s for customers in place, where the idea once was to break these borders. At the same time any of these products has valuable features the other is missing. We feel the market is moving from single purpose products to more integrated, open, cross border, secure, not locking into, team driven solutions. We feel too much time is spend fighting for enhancements in any of these products that would benefit the other products as well. This is mainly [opinion] caused by how these products are traditionally split in product groups (groupware, file). This no longer serves customers in an optimal way and leads to losing customers (opportunity) instead of gaining those as in many cases neither product tends to be a (perfect) fit or is not able to blend into the next step a customer is taking.
