Current web client is too slow and cumbersome by today's standards.
Just have a look at the clean clients from the competing products like Varonis, Kiteworks, Egnyte. Even NextCloud.

Just to name a few problems:

- When navigating the files and folders, all page except the header seems to reload every time. Users see a white page and then the content, even when they are just opening a folder or moving to the next page; and what about those "null.html" and "empty.html"?
- General style is not very modern looking (too much detail at the icons, too much padding).
- If you resize the window making it narrower, widgets on the top right (where the username is) will be on top of the icons (pages are non responsive)
- If you share a file with an external user, they will see "My Files", "NetFolders", "Shared by Me" and all that stuff even if they just have access to the "Shared with Me" content
- If you go to "Shared by Me" the "delete" button looks like it will delete the share, but really deletes the file
- If you go to the download client page the size is fixed and will overflow the browser window if the client has a small resolution.
- Java dependencies, even if it is a web start, is a no-no in today's apps

I heard there will be a revamp of the interfaces on Filr "Quark". Hope you will consider some of these ideas.

  • The Web client is ok, but could definitely benefit from a revamp to become more user-friendly. Just to name a few:
-We don't like the fact that an external users sees Netfolders, My Files and Shared by me, even if he doesn't have access permission to any folder within those trees.
-Same for Share, Copy Link or Email Link using Filr. Don’t show these buttons, when the user doesn’t have a right to share the file, or the folder by link.
-Also hide the “View Trash” option for Netfolders
-For external users, there should be a “big” or easy to locate download button (for folders or within a folder for multiple files). At the moment, they have to search for it under the “More” button.
-If a user clicks on a single image file, the image opens on a new tab on a plain white page, the user then has to rightclick the picture to save it. Here, an image gallery with a download button would be more user friendly, especially when there are a lot of images or movies in a folder.
-Language for first time visitors (external users) should be determined by their browser language.
-Files that are located on a network share will show the user _filesyncagent as the author. Better leave it blank in that case, as this sometimes confuses our users.
-There should be a customizable popup for new users, where admins could write a short text on how to change the language, where to find the windows client or where to find the documentation.
-Also a very small thing I noticed during user training is, that lots of users try to click on the folder icon and not on the folder name.

  • Great inputs Ricardo & Adrian!

Yes, we plan to revamp the UI in Quark. Will consider all of these when doing so.

  • Hi All,

We have started the work to revamp the Filr Web Client (and other clients + Admin interface.

The team wants to gather more feedback from some of our top users/customers and thus wanted to check if you would be able to find some time for this?

They would like to do a 40 to 60 minutes interview over a web session so that you/your-users can show the issues and inputs to the team.

If you are interested and can find time: please send me a mail.

    Thanks,
    Dev

  • Will the new revamped web client be responsive?

  • Dear voters,

We are making good progress wrt implementing this idea in Filr's next release - version 4.1

As always - it would be great to have your feedback on this before we ship.

In case you are interested in joining the beta program - please fill up a short survey as at https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/BPSJCKL

    Regards,
    Dev

  • Hi All,

May be worth removing the images when you enter the existing Beta WEBCLIENT if you hit a folder that does not contain any folders or files.

Also the animated GIF might be worth changing to a timer or something more up to date if this is truly showing the time it takes to refresh the screen.

    Thanks
