To help avoid the need for conflict resolution, it would be useful for a user to be notified if a file is already open when they try and open it themselves.
Most of our users (we're a Service Provider) use the Desktop Client, and of course it would be impossible to check and receive notifications when working from the cache while offline, but I wonder if when online (still working from the cache) this would be possible - i.e. for the client to perform a quick check while it's opening?

Hi
Just to add to this - the conversation has since come up further with both existing, and potential new customers. It has stopped the sale in some instances. It is vital that open files are dealt with in a more robust way. Users are used to seeing prompts like 'File already open by <user name>' - it appears to be important to a lot of users that they are notified upon opening, rather than when saving.
This would be super helpful for our clients too. File conflicts are an issue for us.
