Much like Slack, or HipChat, or Campfire (for Basecamp), the ability to have a folder or workspace for a stream of messages that a group can use to hash out specific needs quickly. The new Basecamp 3 (http://basecamp.com) has this feature as a part of each "Basecamp" where asynchronous messaging can be done.

Perhaps there is a case to be made for integration with Novell Messenger, but just a stream of messages would be great.
