When I have a workflow which assigns access rights on entries in a folder, I have the problem that I can't see whether a workflow overrides the default access rights on the folder and on the entries.

A kind of warning sign (for example a red W) could tell that here is something to be aware of because a workflow might have assigned some access rights.

  • The workflow does this I believe. However if you want a different set of permissions you need to set each option (read, modify, modify fields) etc. in the workflow state, if there is no option one of those actions it looks to the folder / entry for its ACL.

If you however mean being able to use role definitions in a workflow Access Control that would be helpful.

  • When I look at the ACL for a folder, I can't see whether there is a workflow which controls access-rights associated to the folder.

The workflow can override access-rights and you would not know it.

Must be the same issue if you look at access control on entry-level.

  • The workflow can only override the entry ACL, it can't do anything to Folder ACL's.

It might be useful to have on an entry an "applied rights" report or something that can be opened and it could show the current permissions being applied to that entry at that time.

I guess the issue doing an view to show the ACL that could be applied on the workflow is that if you have a lot of states the page would take an age to load and the amount of information would be OTT, but an option to see what permissions (Folder, Entry and Workflow) at that point would be useful for checking workflow ACL's are applied for testing etc.
