When there is a private appointment, it would be nice for a proxy to see an empty appointment (a block without any closer information about the private appointment, but only to visualize the time periode of the appointment)
At least if its also marked as "busy" or as "out of the office" this would make sense, because:
When a person marks an appointment as private in a shared calendar, proxies can't see this appointment. This makes it hard for them to create appointment. Of course there is the busy search, but many users either don't know this feature or think of it as an "overkill" in this situation. This would make it possible to see that there is an appointment (and the person is busy) at first sight.

I too, want this. I know that the traditional answer to this was "tell your users to make two appointments: one private, with the information you want Notify to display to warn you of the upcoming appointment, and the other public but empty, to keep people from scheduling you for a meeting they saw as free time." But when you tell your users this kludge, it makes them look at you funny. ;-)
