Other third party email packages such as Kerio Connect have built Outlook Connector API's that run on individual PC's as a service and establish themselves in the Outlook MAPI settings. The Connector then pulls and pushes email to and from the server to provide a much richer Outlook experience with all the capabilities enabled.
Why have Novell not done this? The existing ActiveSync method is wanting in areas and we are losing customers quickly to Exchange. I'm sure a connector would provide better integration and control?

Unfortunately, the push for the Outlook client is getting stronger at my organization as well. It's something some users have used at prior jobs and is familiar to them. That was one of the interesting options we were interested in when we previewed Zimbra. It has the ability to choose your client.
This would be a great, because many users want the Outlook Client. In my old company, we made a migration from Exchange to Outlook. 80% of the users wanted the outlook Client back.
The other reason is, that many plugins are only available for Outlook and not for the Groupwise Client.
OpenProtocols Conector seems to work with many 3rd party mail servers to enable Outlook. Everything it needs IMAP,SMTP,CardDav,CalDav is supported on GroupWise.
MicroFocus should work with them to make it work with GroupWise and then license it so it's available for GroupWise users.
