You could try using Pidgin. It supports GroupWise, XMPP, and many other protocols in the mean time.
Problem is, Messenger does not support Pidgin for group chat. See my enhancement request https://www1.v1ideas.com/MFI/novell-gw/Idea/Detail/649
I see how that would be a problem and was not aware of that limitation. Good to know.
