When viewing my mailbox in the GroupWise client I want an Unread option that I can click and it will filter the mailbox and show me only the unread items.
Should be one-click to go back to All items or turn the filter off

Maybe not exactly what you are after, but there is an Unread Items panel in the Home view.
This has been partially provided in GW18.1 via a new Unread option in the new Find UI.
To finish this off, we only require the quickfind to have this filter added as well.
I just figured out how to do this yesterday. The instructions below will help you create an unread filter that you can toggle on/off whenever you want.
1. Right click on the background of your inbox (avoid right clicking on an item in your inbox or this won't work)
2. Select "Find in 'Mailbox' folder" from the drop down menu
3. In the window that pops up, click "Advanced Find..."
4. In the first field, select the "Item Status" option from the drop down menu. Next, select "Does Not Include." In the third field, select "Read." Then click OK.
5. You will come back to the first window. Click "Save..."
6. In the "Save As:" field, type "Unread" and ensure the "Put on menu" button is checked. Then click OK.
7. This should automatically filter your inbox and only show unread emails. To turn the filter off, press the X in the search bar in the top right of your mailbox window. To set the filter on, click the magnifying glass in the search bar and select "Unread" at the bottom of the drop down menu.
