GroupWise allows spaces to be used in groups, and for groups to be used without a domain designation (@mydomain.com) if the group belongs to the organization's mail domain. It is very convenient to use human-readable groups names when creating appointments or sending e-mails. Both WebAccess and the Windows Client have no trouble using group names with spaces to schedule appointments or send messages, especially when these groups are picked from the address book.

Some SOAP clients do not like this behavior. Two examples:

1. When sending to a group, even on a reply, the iOS mail application connected via ActiveSync / Mobility will report that the group is invalid. However if the user still decides to send the message then the mail is routed and delivered properly.

2. More pressingly, if a group with spaces is used in a Calendar entry and the entry / appointment is shared with Apple Calendar on OS X via CalDAV (i.e. GroupWise 2014R2 calsrvr), then the following error appears:

======
You entered a group that wasn't recognized by the server.

A group in event "<EVENT NAME HERE>" wasn't recognized by the server.

The account <GROUPWISE DOMAIN NAME> can't be scheduled until the invalid group is removed.
======
Two buttons are then displayed: Remove Group and Edit Event.
Clicking either button just repeats the same message endlessly (i.e. the group is not removed and the same error repeats with the same group and event). The calendar is therefore rendered useless because it is always blocked by the dialogue. This is true even of past events.
