In Germany the DE-Mail Act sets minimum standards for secure electronic communications. A Standard mail client must have special features to support De-Mail. For this purpose Micro Focus developed the DE-Mail Plug-In.
At the moment the DE-Mail Plug-In is available in version 0.94 at Cool Solutions (https://www.novell.com/communities/coolsolutions/cool_tools/de-mail-plug-fur-groupwise/). The Plug-In is functional but has a lack of usability, for example special DE-Mail messages are not recognizable. Equal Plug-Ins for Microsoft Outlook have a much better look and feel.

Because DE-Mail is a legal obligation for government the Plug-In is important to users in Germany. So I vote for further development of the Plug-In.

  • Agree, we need this. This is a requirement for thousands of users in Germany.

  • Our current plan is to integrate this directly into the client and we hope to be able to deliver that in the 1H of 2017 in a GroupWise support pack.

  • Thank you, Mike.

  • Just as we need the DE-Mail-plugin, it's required to get a plugin for EGVP.
EGVP ist another secure mail-transportation-system, that is used by german administrations, justice and lawyers. EGVP has a lot of features to prove the integrity of the message and the sender.

  • It would be nice if GroupWise could handle EGVP messages as well (with special icon and so on) but I think EGVP is a bit more complex as DE-Mail is and one time more a "german problem".

When working with DE-Mail GroupWise just has to handle normal SMTP messages interpreting the special DE-Mail keywords in subject or x-header lines. The keywords and x-headers are standardized by a few certified providers offering DE-Mail-Gateways.

If GroupWise should handle EGVP then GroupWise has to learn either the needed OSCI communication or you have to use a central 3rd party gateway which converts the OSCI messages to SMTP messages like the DE-Mail-Gateways do it. When using a gateway someone has to define a standard which subject keywords or x-header lines define such an EGVP based SMTP message.

    In short words:
Having EGVP in GroupWise would be nice but first let's have a working DE-Mail solution with the features and comfort the DE-Mail plugins for Outlook offers since years.
Thanks Mike for realising this "german problem". I think a working DE-Mail integration will keep some customers away from switching to Exchange/Outlook. Hope we see the result soon.

  • This is available in 14.2.2 which is now shipping
