When creating a new message, GW remembers your preference for whether the slide-out is opened or closed. Our users have entered Notes into Sent Items, but every time they open a Sent Item the slide-out panel showing the Notes is closed, requiring extra time to open it to view Notes. They'd like it to be open by default. Another possibility would be to automatically open the slide-out if any Notes are present.

I've informed them of the keyboard shortcut, Alt-Left Arrow, to open the slide-out, but they'd like a similar experience to what the New message window provides.
