I have a VIP for whom a large part of his job is personal contacts (this is common for people in Sales, too). He is convinced that GroupWise Mobility is trashing updates to contacts he makes while in the field.

He does still need to do email and calendaring in his smartphone. However, contact management for him would better be done by some other service. Thus, if his contacts do get messed up, it is that other service's fault - not GroupWise's fault.

At the moment, if a person is in Mobility, the Mobility server *must* have at least one address book assigned to synchronize to. The enhancement request is to be able to divorce GroupWise address book synchronization from the other pieces of Mobility.

In the Mobility administration page for the user, in the GroupWise section, I would like the user to be able to deselect all listed address books from synchronization, and, for the drop-down list of which address book is the default, I would like an option of "None - do not sync any address books".

Comments

  • Most mobile devices support choosing what EAS services they sync with, so you can have him sync everything except contacts. Believe many MDM systems also support configuring this in their email profile.

  • We need to keep corporate information out of contacts going to providers of "free" instant messengers. So being able to devorce all address books from the mobile devices for all users would be good too.
