In specific cases like the WannaCry virus, it would be helpful to remove all external mail from all accounts within the past x number of days.
This would undoubtedly remove valid mail, but it would also get rid of spam mail received that could contain the virus.
The option to remove external mail might want to include only those items that have an attachment.

Wow that's a weird approach, you better look for a proper AV & AS solution like GWAVA or Sophos, etc.
They can block certain attachments, despite not knowing if they contain a virus or not.
