As a GroupWise administrator I would like to create a web based address book, so users without access to GW can search the directory company wide. And to tell you the truth web based address books have better search engines than GW Address Book has ATM. In GW AB you can search only for Department, First Name, Last Name, Email address and Name. This is simply not enough. People would like to search for everything else also, like company, telephone number, title, etc. There are lots of free, open source address books on the net which can do this. The data source for these books is usually some LDAP implementation. Since GW is now directory independent, most of the GW groups, and every resource, nickname is not in LDAP (eDir or AD). Beside this, if a users visibility is set to NONE, LDAP does not know about this and the user is displayed. And of course none of the external users are displayed. All of these problems could be solved with the LDAP server built into GW. Unfortunately the admin defined fields are not in GW LDAP although they are a must have. (like building, floor, room number ...) So my idea is that GW LDAP should display the admin defined fields also and make every attribute searchable.

  • I second this, having a Web Based System Address Book (like the Novell eGuide web based solution we use to have) would be a great new GroupWise gateway service. The install would be the same as we do today for the Calendar Publishing Host or WebAccess. URL root could be acme.com/gwab/

Related: Searching in the Windows GW Address Book program is very poor. Very slow and unreliable.

The Windows "Address Book" program and the GW Win Client "Frequent Contacts" and "PAB" Folders need to have the same feature parity.

The whole Address Book service in GroupWise needs an overhaul in the Wasatch release.
