Groupwise can already send mails to the Junk mail folder depending on an X-Spam flag in an SMTP header. This could be expanded; a certain SMTP header value could trigger other actions. E.g., a HR system sends a confidential mail: It could easily set a header entry which then would mark the message as "Private" in the recipient's mailbox (so it cannot be seen by a proxy user).
There's probably much more you could do with this, like marking as important, or "reply requested", etc.

  • Tools -> Rules -> New -> Rule Name X-HRSystem ; Define Conditions -> in pull-down select 'All Fields' then select button 'X-Fields'. At bottom of box where it says 'Type here to add a new X-Field' enter "X-HRSystem" then press Add and OK and OK... (You can probably get the rest. Yes, it's client-based not system-based but you know there are tools out there to push rules.) This works with GW 8.0.2, 12.0.3, and 14.2.0, not sure about other versions. But in any case, can the HR system easily set a header? Might as well just mark private everything from the HR system regardless.

  • Must not be client based. Not until we get to set admin based rules (and lock them). Pretty much like Junkmail Handling.

  • Sure, that would be better, ability to manage system-wide rules from the admin console. And that's already an idea here.
