Dragging and Dropping Emails
You can drag and drop an item from within GroupWise to the location where you want to save the file. For example, you could drag and drop a message into a project folder on your Windows desktop or another email client.

Files that you drag and drop are saved in one of two formats: a shortcut to the original message in .gwi format or a copy of the original message in .eml format.

To change the format:

1. Click Tools > Options.
2. Double-click Environment, then click the Default Actions tab.
3. Under Drag message to desktop select Create a shortcut (.gwi) or Create a copy (.eml).

However, there does not appear to be any way to set this centrally: https://www.novell.com/documentation/groupwise2014/gw2014_guide_userwin/data/email_receivedmail.html

We need a mechanism to be able force the client to default to 'Create a copy (.eml)'.

Comments

  • If having this be configured centrally is impossible, changing the default to 'Create a copy (.eml)' would be preferable. Users at our organization have used GWI files to archive important messages and then discovered that they are no longer available when the person who owned the message has left.

  • Additional to this. If a recipient is outside of GW-System, it should automatically attach the full E-Mail, instead of sending an unusable gwi-link.

  • Flagging Paul G.'s comment was a mistake, sorry (there no ability to un-flag...

  • Additional, GW14R2SP1 has the ability to save as PDF. So, I like to have this as default setting in this behaviour.

  • Big +1 for this. The company I work for is having a practice management system installed and the ability to drag and drop emails from GroupWise into the new system would be a huge benefit to staff. It would also help stave off the menacing advances of Outlook, as management are looking for any excuse to make the switch....

  • Totally in agreement with the previous post. We must stave off the advancements of Outlook for a sane society.

  • Totally agree with all the above comments. Comment of the year goes to Hamzah C.

  • Good idea ! Actually we use a ".reg" to do this (EML default) : [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Novell\GroupWise\Client\Setup]
    ".DragMimeToDesktop"=dword:00000001

  • @Denis L, yes that's what we do too. We have a "GroupWise Customisation" ZCM bundle that sets this registry setting and a bunch of others (set post office, Messenger start on launch etc)
