Having the national ID stored using a hash such as MD5 adds an at rest encryption for this sensitive data.

This should also make the National ID unreadable in the trace logs like passwords. It should also not be limited to National ID but all other private ID information like for Visas, Passports, Armed Forces, other Government IDs, etc.
